The Friends of Holy Trinity, Rayleigh
Charity Registration Number: 1069853

The Friends committee is extremely grateful to A.R. Adams Funeral Directors Ltd for their very generous offer to buy the Christmas tree lights for the Rayleigh Town Christmas Tree. Sponsorship of these lights by individuals or groups in memory of loved ones has brought much needed income for the Friends for several years and we hope this will continue. Each person remembered is recorded in a book that is on display in Holy Trinity church during the period running up to Christmas whilst the tree is lit.

We are very grateful to the ‘Friends’ Committee who continue to raise funds for repairs and restoration work through a programme of events and activities; annually approximately £20,000.

As Jane Brown mentioned recently we are always on the look-out for new members – all are welcome.  We are particularly pleased that Derek Kentish has come forward to volunteer as our new Treasurer.  Our thanks go to David Wadeson for his hard work as treasurer and wish him well for the future, and we look forward to working with Derek as he gets to grips with the role.

We also reiterate Jane’s message to Find another Member.  If by chance you are reading this and you haven’t yet joined, please pick up an application form from Church or the Parish Centre or contact our Membership Secretary Liz Simmonds 01268 745825.  Members receive discounts on tickets to most Friends’ events along with the satisfaction of knowing they are ensuring that Rayleigh’s oldest building will pass to future generations in good repair.

As you have seen over the last few months the scaffolding which has engulfed the tower and some of the windows, this year has seen the most comprehensive restoration works to the tower and windows for 100 years.  This work is proposed to include repointing on the South and East walls of the church (subject to authorisations) so the scaffolding will continue to be around into 2011. Why not be part of this historic effort and join the Friends in this significant year?
